observation assignment

I entered the room of 6-314 within the NAC building of the school of City College. The class I was entering was a English class within a 300 level course, the room consisted of 4 walls and absolutely no windows. Although the class room had no windows it did consist of a projector and a chalk board for the professors usage. While entering the classroom some students were already seated and some seats were left empty, there were approximately 25 seats within the classroom. As I stepped forward to be seated towards the middle of the classroom I noticed more students entering and filling up the empty seats. There were small conversations occurring throughout the classroom as the students waited for the professor. Finally the professor walked in the classroom, he is a short skinny white male that is bald. He was wearing a light pink button up shirt with a cognac belt and matching shoes and light khaki pants. The professor started the class by reminding the students of upcoming deadlines for essays. Then he continued to start the class with an overview of the subject being presented. Students were very quiet throughout the class. The professor did most of the talking, he usually paced back and force by his desk as he spoke about the plays were assigned to read. He would reference back to students asking small questions as 2 or 3 students followed. However the professor did most of the talking for the one hour and a half class. Many students used electronic devices while class was in session, most of the students were using laptops perhaps reflecting back on the readings for the class. Other students were asleep, perhaps 2 of the students were fast asleep towards the back of the classroom. One student in particular was eating, she was an Asian student sitting behind me enjoying a plate of food while class was in session. I observed her throughout the class period and she was constantly on the phone or enjoying her meal, her interest for the class was long gone. There were about 2-4 students who would constantly participate and even finish the professors sentences regarding the reading we had done for class. Besides these descriptions nothing else seemed to happen while I was observing the classroom. The professor took a big role as the main speaker and presenter for the classroom. He had suggested to do group work but was taken back when he realized he no longer had time because he was over expressing details from the readings.
